Day 11: Oxygen, Dalton's Atomic Theory, and Writing Chemical Formulas

  1. Elements are made of tiny particles called atoms.
I believe that this theory is true.  I believe this because atoms make up everything, including elements.

    2.  All atoms of a given element are identical.

I do not agree with this because isotopes of an atom have different weights.

    3.  Atoms cannot be split, created, or destroyed.

I do agree with this because it refers to the law of conservation of matter.

    4.  Atoms of different elements combine in simple whole-number ratios to form compounds.

I do agree with this because it refers to the law of definite proportions.

    5.  A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms.

Yes, I agree with this because that is part of the definition of a chemical reaction.
